Monkey Shoulder's massive whisky shaker comes to Red Bank for Happy Hour

Get ready Red Bank, the world's largest cocktail shaker is driving into town.

Monkey Shoulder, a brand of 100% malt Scottish whisky made specifically for mixing cocktails, has transformed a cement mixer into a whisky shaker in order to market the brand across the nation.

Tonight, it will appear at Teak in Red Bank for a special 5 to 8 p.m. Happy Hour, where visitors can enjoy drinks like the Side Piece (Monkey Shoulder Scotch, lemon, peach, ginger beer and ruby port) or the Tropic Like It's Hot (with Monkey Shoulder Scotch, pineapple juice, coconut syrup and soda mint). There will be live spins by DJ Jaymie Perez.

The company calls it "the world's largest cocktail shaker," and for good reason: NJ 101.5 says it's about 27 feet long, 13 feet tall and 8 feet wide.

Monkey Shoulder was born to one of the oldest whisky-making Scottish families in the world: William Grant & Sons, which, according to their website, has been distilling since 1887. The new blend of whisky, made specifically for cocktail mixing, was born in the early 2000s, but officially hit shelves in 2003.

"Put your nose in the glass and you'll smell zesty orange, vanilla, honey and spiced oak," the site reads. "Take a sip and you'll taste mellow vanilla and spicy hints.

"The smooth, malty and fruity character is bold enough to stand out in a drink, and balanced enough to not take it over."

Teak owner George Lyristis has been eagerly waiting in the parking lot today for the Monkey Mixer's arrival.

“We’re looking forward to it [because] it’s something very different, and it’s pretty cool watching something like that pull up,” he said. “It’s basically a portable bar, and it’s eye catching coming down the street.

“We wanted to kick off the summer, and get people excited about Red Bank.”
