Monkeypox vaccines are on the way, the virus can spread to dogs, and other takeaways from hearing

Local health officials and community groups from across California on Tuesday urged state lawmakers to provide more funding and resources to help stop the spread of monkeypox. The requests came during an oversight hearing held by the State Senate’s Select Committee on Monkeypox to analyze state and local responses to the outbreak. As of Tuesday night, the California Department of Public Health had not updated its statewide data, but has recorded 1,310 cases as of August 5. The majority of cases have been confirmed in gay and bisexual men.
