Monroe-area high school top performers: West Monroe's Caleb Ross hits grand slam
Here are top performers in high school baseball, softball and other spring sports from the News-Star area for the week of May 9.
Saturday
Baseball
Brennan Eager, West Monroe: Eager threw 4.2 innings and allowed one hit, no runs and no walks in a 9-6 win over St. Amant for the LHSAA Class 5A state title. He was named most outstanding player.
Hayden Federico, West Monroe: Federico went 2-for-3 with a three RBI triple.
Caleb Ross, West Monroe: Ross went 1-for-4 with a grand slam.
Friday
Baseball
Kaleb Procter, Oak Grove: Proctor went 2-for-4 with a run scored in a 2-1 win over Grand Lake for the LHSAA Class 1A state title.
Luke Simmons, Oak Grove: Simmons went 2-for-4 with an RBI single. Simmons was named most outstanding player.
Caden McCarthy, Oak Grove: McCarthy struck out seven.
Landon Hennon, Choudrant: Hennen struck out eight and allowed no walks in a 12-6 win over Converse for the LHSAA Class B title. He has two singles and two RBIs.
Gavyn Murphy, Choudrant: Murphy had a home run, two singles and two RBIs. He was named most outstanding player.
Bryce McGuire, Choudrant: McGuire had two singles and a RBI.
Thursday
Baseball
Drew Ferguson, West Monroe: Ferguson threw 5⅓ innings and allowed one run, three hits and one strikeout in an 6-5 win over Dutchtown.
Trey Hawsey, West Monroe: Hawsey had two hits including a walk-off three-run home run.
Jacob Bareswill, Ouachita Christian: Bareswill threw a complete game shutout allowing three hits, three walks and five strikeouts in a 10-0 win over St. Fredrick.
Zach White, Ouachita Christian: White went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run.
Tucker Stutts, Ouachita Christian: Stutts went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run.
Wednesday
Baseball
Nick Womack, Claiborne Christian: Womack went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, a run, a stolen base and a walk in a 11-7 win over Northside Christian to advance to the Division V state championship.
Logan Wedrall, Claiborne Christian: Wedrall went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run. He threw 6⅔ innings allowing 12 hits, one walk and striking out six.
Holden Aultman, Claiborne Christian: Aultman went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs and a walk.
Josh Vaughn, Claiborne Christian: Vaughn went 3-for-4 with three runs, two stolen bases and a RBI.
Jackson Bradley, Oak Grove: Bradley went 3-for-3 with two stolen bases in a 5-3 win over LaSalle to advance to the Class 1A state championship.
