Monroe Community Players plan third performance of 'Maui'

Area residents can't get enough of "Murder on Maui."

For the third time this year, the Monroe Community Players is staging its interactive murder mystery. The next performance, a dinner theater experience, will take place Oct. 6 at Carl's Hideway, 2838 Lewis Ave. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with the mystery beginning at 7.

The show will feature the orginial cast from the last two performances.

“Audiences can’t seem to get enough of this show, so we are thrilled to bring it back a third time to Carl’s Hideaway," said the show's director, Brian Burchette-Ross. "The intimate nature of the restaurant setting really brings the audience closer to the story. Because it is an interactive mystery, the audience also gets to play a part in deciding whodunnit.”

Though this is an encore production of the show, Burchette-Ross promises a few surprises even for those who are returning to see it again.

"The original cast is returning for this one. They can’t get enough of the show either and love having fun with the audience," he said.

"Murder on Maui" is a play by Susan Haley.

The setting for this fast-paced and comedic mystery is a Mexican restaurant located at the Pineapple Haven Resort on the island of Maui.

"Our host of the evening is Harold Logan (Burchette-Ross) a less than reputable businessman and owner of the hotel, who along with his 'silent' partner Rebel (David Wahr) is celebrating the establishment of his new charity with a gala fundraiser," Players said. "Things are going smoothly until Harold’s ex-wife and former owner of the hotel Stella (Valerie Mercieca) shows up. It seems that she feels she was too generous in letting Harold have the hotel after the divorce and wants to settle the score. Harold’s current girlfriend, Bambi (Michaela Brownell) immediately comes to Harold’s defense and tensions rise. When local spiritualist Abigail (Mary Barnas), entertainer Donnie Wo (Mark Thornton) and Harold’s stepdaughter Ruth (Makenzie Swanson) all join in the fracas things come to a head and we discover that there has been A Murder on Maui."

The show contains mild adult language and adult themes.

Tickets are $40 and include the show, dinner and choice of a bottomless soft-drink, one mixed drink or two beers. Seating is limited. For tickets and more information, visit www.monroecommunityplayers.org.
