Monroe County Probate Court announces change in leadership

Monroe County Probate Court Register Susan Vagt recently announced her retirement.

Vagt has worked for the Monroe County Probate Court since October 1999. She soon was promoted to deputy probate register and became the chief deputy probate register in 2003. In 2021, Vagt ascended to the position of probate register.

Nicole Bell has been promoted to fill the vacated leadership position.

In a recent press release, Chief Probate Judge Cheryl E. Lohmeyer announced the change in leadership in the probate division, which handles the processing of guardianships, conservatorships, decedents’ estates and trusts, mental health proceedings, and other matters.

Lohmeyer noted that Vagt has been married for 45 years and has two children and three grandchildren. She also is very active in Monroe County 4-H and is an avid seamstress, Lohmeyer said.

"The probate division will miss Ms. Vagt's vast knowledge of all things probate, but are happy that she will be able to enjoy her retirement and spend time with her beloved grandchildren," Lohmeyer said in the release.

Bell has worked for the probate court for six years.

"Ms. Bell has proven to be an exceptional team player and extremely diligent in managing the demands of the probate division," Lohmeyer said in the release. "Ms. Bell is married and has lived in Monroe County her entire life. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, spending time with family and friends, and reading."
