Monroe County Road Watch: Projects for week of Aug. 8
Following are road construction projects scheduled across Monroe County for the week of August 8, 2022:
BEDFORD TOWNSHIP
Chip Seal Projects
The following road is scheduled to be chip sealed during the upcoming week. The road will be closed to through traffic while crews are working, and the road will be swept the following day. Motorists are encouraged to travel at the advisory speed limit of 25 mph until the chip seal surface has been swept.
Smith – Township Line to Whiteford Center
Douglas Road from Sterns Road to Temperance Road
Pavement Maintenance Systems is scheduled to microsurface Douglas Road from Sterns Road to Temperance Road next week. One-lane, one-way traffic will be maintained for northbound Douglas Road traffic when the microsurfacing work is being performed. Southbound traffic on Douglas Road will be detoured with a signed detoured route utilizing Temperance Road, Secor Road, Summerfield Road, and Sterns Road. The microsurfacing work on Douglas Road is expected to be completed in one day.
Jackman Road from Dean Road to Temperance Road
Pavement Maintenance Systems is scheduled to microsurface Jackman Road from Dean Road to Temperance Road next week. One-lane, one-way traffic will be maintained for northbound Jackman Road traffic when the microsurfacing work is being performed. Southbound traffic on Jackman Road will be detoured with a signed detour route utilizing Dean Road, Douglas Road, and Dean Road. The microsurfacing work on Jackman Road is expected to be completed in one day.
Secor Road from Summerfield Road to Consear Road
Pavement Maintenance Systems is scheduled to microsurface Secor Road from Summerfield Road to Consear Road next week. One-lane, one-way traffic will be maintained for northbound Secor Road traffic when the microsurfacing work is being performed. Southbound traffic on Secor Road will be detoured with a signed detour route utilizing Consear Road and Summerfield Road. The microsurfacing work on Secor Road is expected to be completed in one day.
St. Anthony Road between Summerfield Road and Secor Road
Monroe County Drain Commission will be working with the Monroe County Road Commission and will be replacing the culvert crossing of St. Anthony Road at Bay Creek, approximately 2,000-feet west of Secor Road. The road will be closed to all traffic. Detour route includes Summerfield Road, Erie Road and Secor Road. Project is expected to take approximately (1) one week to complete, weather permitting.
Summerfield Road between Sterns Road and Secor Road
South County Water System will be installing a new water main along Summerfield Road between Sterns Road and Secor Road. During the water main work, Summerfield Road will be closed to through traffic between Sterns Road and Secor Road. The signed detour for the road closure will utilize Sterns Road and Secor Road.
DUNDEE TOWNSHIP
Petersburg Road between Summerfield Township Line and Brewer Road
Construction work will continue next week on Petersburg Road between Summerfield Township Line and Brewer Road to begin hot mix asphalt resurfacing. Traffic regulators will be used to maintain local access. All work is weather permitting.
Dennison Road between Kent Road and Collins Road
RAM Construction Services is scheduled to apply an epoxy overlay on the Dennison Road bridge deck over the Middle Branch Macon Creek. Dennison Road will be closed to through traffic when the work is being performed. No detour route will be posted for this road closure due to the low traffic volume and short duration of the closure.
ERIE TOWNSHIP
Summit Street Bridge between Sterns Road and State Line
Miller Bros. will begin deck work on the east half of the bridge carrying Summit Street over Shantee Creek. Two-lane, two-way traffic will be maintained throughout work activities utilizing a temporary paved lane in the shoulder of Summit Street and a lane shift. All work is weather permitting
EXETER TOWNSHIP
Scofield Carleton Road between Sumpter Road and Finzel Road
Miller Bros. and Cadillac Asphalt are to begin next week on Scofield Road between Sumpter Road and Finzel Road. It will include aggregate and crush and shaping in preparation for the hot mix asphalt overlay. The road will be closed to through traffic. All work is weather permitting.
Scofield Road between Raisin Road and Bitz Road
Scofield Road is scheduled to be closed to through traffic between Raisin Road and Bitz Road next week for removal and replacement of drainage cross tile. No detour route will be posted for this road closure due to the low traffic volume and short duration of the closure. All work is weather permitting.
LONDON/RAISINVILLE TOWNSHIPS
Yensch Road between Stewart Road to Ostrander Road
Miller Bros. and Cadillac Asphalt are to begin next week on Yensch Road between Stewart Road and Ostrander Road. It will include trench widening, aggregate and crush and shaping in preparation for the hot mix asphalt overlay. The road will be closed to through traffic. All work is weather permitting.
MILAN TOWNSHIP
Wabash Road between Cone Road and Redman Road
RAM Construction Services is scheduled to apply an epoxy overlay on the Wabash Road bridge over North Macon Creek. Wabash Road will be closed to through traffic when the work is being performed. No detour route will be posted for this road closure due to the low traffic volume and short duration of the closure.
CITY OF MONROE
Orchard Drive reconstruction
G.V. Cement Contracting of Brownstown Township is reconstructing the section between Macomb and Riverview in new 8” concrete, including curbs and driveway approaches. The mainline pavement is now completed and the north side is open for traffic, with the south side re-opening mid-week. For the coming week, the contractor expects to complete all remaining concrete drive approaches and sidewalk ramps, so the roadway will be fully reopened by the end of the week.
Avenue De LaFayette at North Custer reconstruction
G.V. Cement is replacing the pavement on Avenue de Lafayette at the entrance to the subdivision at North Custer Road. This is only a spot closure at the intersection, and traffic is being maintained half width at a time. All roadway pavement has been completed, but the east half must remain closed through next Thursday. For the coming week, the contractor expects to complete the remaining sidewalk ramps, and will reopen the entire area by the end of the week.
Riverview Avenue resurfacing/reconstruction
The resurfacing / reconstruction of Riverview Avenue between Maywood Avenue and Cole Road is this year’s Federal project for the City of Monroe. The work will consist of milling and paving of the top 3 inches of asphalt between Maywood and Oakwood, and reconstruction / repairs of the worst sections of concrete between Oakwood and Cole. Cadillac Asphalt of Romulus is the prime contractor, and Merlo Construction of Milford is the concrete subcontractor. In addition to the resurfacing work, curbs and associated drive approaches will be replaced on both sides between Maywood and Linwood, and on the west side between Linwood and Greenwood. For the coming week, the concrete subcontractor is planning to continue to pour back curbs, concrete mainline pavement, and drive approaches that have been removed. There will be mostly spot lane closures, though there may be some times when individual blocks are completely closed, particularly between Oakwood and Cole.
Pavement markings program
JV Contracting of Goodrich, Michigan will be replacing a large number of pavement markings City-wide, including crosswalks, stop bars, turn arrows, etc. They plan to work again this coming week, which will involve spot lane closures on a number of roadways City-wide. Their work is likely to last through most of August.
WHITEFORD TOWNSHIP
Chip Seal Project
The following roads are scheduled to be chip sealed during the upcoming week. The roads will be closed to through traffic while crews are working, and the roads will be swept the following day.
