Monroe man killed in Prospect Plains Road crash: police

MONROE – A 56-year-old township man was killed in a one-vehicle crash early Wednesday on Prospect Plains Road, police said.

The victim’s identity was not released.

Police said the man was driving a 2001 Ford Escape westbound on Prospect Plains Road near the intersection of Englehard Drive, when the vehicle left the roadway to the right, struck a curb, overturned, struck a fire hydrant and the driver was ejected from the vehicle.

Monroe police, EMS and Robert Wood Johnson paramedics arrived at the scene shortly after 2:11 a.m. where the driver was pronounced dead.

The crash is under investigation, police said. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Monroe Township Police Traffic Safety Division at 732-521-0222 ext. 224.
