Readers of The Monroe News had a lot to say in light of the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling overturning the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision.

A post on The Monroe News' Facebook page looking for local reactions garnered nearly 60 responses in just three hours. The comments ran the gamut of opinions on the controversial ruling.

"I don't even have the words to describe my anger right now," wrote Aurora Reynolds. "People with uteruses will no longer have the legal right to bodily autonomy in this country. I'm ashamed to be an American and scared for what they will take away from us next."

But Jennifer Connelly said that "It is frightening that some people think it should be a right to decimate so many young lives."

"Abortion = death and regret," she wrote. "Open your ears and mind and heart to the truth -- abortion is not your only option! Your children and grandchildren will thank you."

Falynn Roe said that the ruling is "awful" and, like Reynolds, questioned what changes will come next.

"Too many people care what others do," Roe wrote. "It’s not my business nor my place to judge. It scares me for all women."

But Gary Connelly countered that the Supreme Court's ruling simply leaves the issue in the hands of the states and their elected leaders.

"Not their place to dictate from the federal level," he wrote.
