Monroe Soroptimists installs three, honors a member, donates to four organizations

Three new members were inducted into Soroptimist International of Monroe County during the organization’s recent “Margaritas with Senioritas" event. Another member was honored for a recent award, and four organizations were given donations.

Krista Lambrix, Laura Papenhagen and Amy Zarend were installed as new members by Vivian Walczesky, Soroptimist International of America director and laws and resolutions chair and member of SI of Monroe County.

Also at the event, SI of Monroe County presented donations to four organizations for “impactful work within the community,” SI of Monroe County said. Accepting the checks were Crystal Martin from Family Counseling & Shelter Services, Barbara Bacarella from Holiday Camp, Lisa Young from Paula's House II and Brenda Pawlicki from New Beginnings Mercy House.

SI of Monroe County member Pricilla Hutra was honored for receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award at the district spring conference.

“Pricilla has consistently demonstrated unwavering dedication to Soroptimist International of Monroe County and various other organizations. Pricilla's involvement with her employer's community service initiatives enabled her to spread the word about Soroptimist and attract valuable sponsorships,” SI of Monroe County said.

Hutra has served as president, vice president and treasurer of SI of Monroe County. She has participated in district meetings and conferences. In the community, she serves on the Advisory Board for the Monroe Salvation Army, is the special events chair for United Way of Monroe/Lenawee Counties and is president of St. Michael's We Care.

She received the 2018 Michigan Week Award, 2001 United Way Volunteer of the Year Award, 2000 JCPenney Liberty Bell Award and the 1997 Monroe County Chamber of Commerce Athena Award.

“Soroptimist International of Monroe County congratulates Pricilla Hutra on her Lifetime Achievement Award and expresses its gratitude for her unwavering commitment to the organization's mission. Her dedication, resilience and boundless passion for empowering women and girls continue to inspire members and the broader community alike,” SI of Monroe County said.

“Margaritas with Senioritas" was hosted by Anne Noland, Elaine Cangealose and Lisa Reaume. Attending were more than 45 members and guests.

Soroptimist International of Monroe County is a prominent women's service organization.
