Monroe woman honored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana for her work helping children

The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation's Angel Award Gala honored nine locals for their work improving the lives of the state's children including Jan B. Daniels from Monroe.

The BCBS of Louisiana Foundation works each day to improve the health and lives of Louisianians by empowering everyday people to do extraordinary good. By building and funding coalitions of friends, families and neighbors, the Foundation hopes to build a healthier Louisiana, particularly for its children.

To live healthy lives, children need safe places to live, learn and play in addition to healthy food, guidance and educational opportunity. Across Louisiana, there are thousands of children without access to the support they need to thrive. Thankfully, there are also thousands of everyday people working to make a difference in the lives of those children.

The Angel Awards has been honoring those everyday people in the community striving to make a difference in kids' lives since 1995 and has recognized over 200 of them while providing them with much-needed resources inclduing at $25,000 grant for each Angel's nonprofit.

From coaches to teachers, clergy members, doctors, homemakers, entrepreneurs and more, these individuals have served as volunteers, staff and board members of exceptional nonprofits working to benefit the kids in the community. What they all have in common is an unselfish contribution of time and energy to improve the welfare of Louisiana children.

One of this year's nine honorees was Monroe local Jan. B. Daniels, youth development coordinator at the Children's Coalition for Northeast Louisiana where she teaches suicide prevention to students, caregivers and professionals. Daniels has provided resources and referrals to thousands of people in crisis in Northeast Louisiana and has taught to more than 55,000 students and professionals to spot the signs of suicide in young people.

The 2022 Angel Awards will be available to stream on Monday, November 21 on the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation page or on Louisiana Public Broadcasting.
