Monroeville's Smith Participates in Mount Union's MLK Day of Service

Jan. 18—ALLIANCE — More than 300 students, faculty, staff and community members volunteered their time at area non-profit organizations as part of the University of Mount Union's annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service on Monday.

Emma Smith, of Monroeville, was one of the Mount Union students who volunteered for MLK Day of Service.

The event, which began in 2010, is coordinated by Mount Union's Regula Center for Public Service and places volunteers across non-profit locations in the community. This year, 14 organizations benefitted from Mount Union volunteer support, including the Alliance Neighborhood Center, Stark County Humane Society, Habitat for Humanity, Beech Creek Botanical Garden and several others.

"Days like today give students like me an opportunity to give back to our campus and surrounding community. Seeing my peers' enthusiasm to make our community a better place is so encouraging for our future," said Sarah Conley '24.

"The MLK Day of service allows other students and I to be able to give back to the Alliance community," said Kaylee Adkins '24. "To me, days like today are very rewarding being able to see my peers be so involved in service. With our short time here in the Alliance community it is important to give back while we are here."
