The Montana woman who drew criticism online after she posted a photo of a husky she shot and skinned, has received minimal punishment from the local courts.

Amber Rose Barnes pled no contest to misdemeanor animal cruelty after killing the young pup — allegedly thinking it was a wolf while hunting — and will now have her sentence deferred.

Barnes’ record will be wiped clean as long as she complies to the few probational requirements handed down to her, reports TMZ.

Among these requirements is a stipulation that Barnes must complete an online hunter safety class. She’s also not allowed to use her hunting rifles for the next six months.

The ruling comes after the investigation that took place last year when Rose posted a now-deleted picture to Facebook, which included a caption celebrating what she thought to be a hunting triumph.

“So this morning I set out for a solo predator hunt for a fall black bear, however I got the opportunity to take another predator,” she wrote, along with several photos of the skinned animal. “Was a great feeling to text my man and say I just smoked a wolf pup.”

In response to the criticism she received from the post, she claimed the animal was acting aggressively towards her and that she’d do it again, because her safety was her “top priority.”

Now, the animal cruelty charge brought against her will be of little consequence.

According to the Montana Fish Wildlife & Parks website, hunting season doesn’t mostly begin in Montana until the fall, after Barnes’ six-month probation will have ended.
