MONTGOMERY — Montgomery's Stout-Nesbit Post 156 of the American Legion is growing.

On Monday, June 26, Sons of the American Legion Detachment Commander Victor Fisher traveled to Montgomery for a meeting of the proposed SAL Squadron 156, which has officially applied for a charter.

The SAL is part of the greater American Legion Family, which consists of the American Legion, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Sons of the American Legion and the American Legion Riders. SAL members include males of all ages whose parents or grandparents served in the U.S. military and were eligible for American Legion membership, according to the Legion's website, legion.org.

The addition of a SAL squadron in Montgomery will act as a force multiplier and give Post 156 additional resources to better serve their community and its veterans.

"That's why we do it," said Fisher. "It's all for the veterans."

Stout-Nesbit Post 156 acts as a community center in the small, rural village of Montgomery and hosts weekly social hours, opening its doors to the public for dinner and games.

The addition of an SAL squadron was organized by Adjutant Jim Gollnick, a U.S. Marine veteran and active member of the post. His son will be joining the SAL squadron.
