Montgomery Co. allocates thousands of dollars for community art grants
The Montgomery County Arts and Cultural District (MCACD) launched their new Community Mini Grants to support the community’s artistic and cultural ventures.

The district plans on granting small financial awards designed to “improve access to the arts and bring people together,” a spokesperson for the department informed.
Each grant will award up to $1,000 on a rolling basis for grassroots, minority, neighborhood, and small organization efforts, the spokesperson informed.
The Board of County Commissioners approved $25,000 in funding for these grants in December 2022 as a part of the 2023 budget.
“The arts should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their age, physical location or financial status,” Commission President Debbie Lieberman said. “These new grants empower residents to come together to beautify their neighborhoods, increase programming and most importantly, to build community.”
“The arts help break down barriers and allow neighbors to celebrate each other’s cultures,” Executive Director of MCACD Matt Dunn said. “It’s our hope that these new grants will inspire residents to use their creativity and connect with each other in new ways.”
These grants can be used to paint community murals, establish a summer arts program for schoolchildren, or set a theatrical performance.
The Community Mini Grants announcement comes as officials accept applications for the Special Projects Grants, which offer up to $10,000 each. The Special Projects Grants are designated for “small to mid-sized arts and cultural organizations, nonprofits, schools and colleges, among others,” the spokesperson said.
