Montgomery County Engineer asks city commissioners to approve $1.5 million roadway project

The Montgomery County Engineer is asking county commissioners to approve a $1.5 million project to fix a pair of bridges over Wolf Creek in Dayton.

Just north of Little Richmond Road is the Gettysburg bridge that is falling apart with decay and deterioration in several spots.

The money would go towards patching and sealing concrete surfaces, replacing and updating the bridge walls and abutments, include beams being scraped and painted, and updating guardrails.

Many citizens are concerned about driver safety considering this area is a common route that people take to work everyday.

The heavily used roadway has five total lanes, making it a magnet for speeding, drag racing or dangerous driving in general, according to Dayton Police.

This roadway has been a site of many fatal crashes with the most recent crash taking four young people’s lives.

Dayton city leaders are considering a few different adjustments to help with driver safety by slimming down the roadway and removing some lanes.

If the county approves the project next month, it will likely begin in April of next year and be completed by the end of 2023.
