Montgomery County house explosion, fire kill 2

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. — Richard L. Chastain, 90, and Marilyn D. Fox, 91, died Saturday in a house explosion and fire northwest of Crawfordsville, according to a Crawfordsville Fire Department news release published Monday.

Firefighters arrived to find the house and attached garage at 2962 West Montgomery County Road 400 North fully engulfed by fire, and a resident of the house outside in the front lawn. That resident was airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital, where he was in stable condition on Monday, according to the news release.

The fire scene is about a quarter-of-a-mile west of Montgomery County Road 275 West and about a quarter-of-a -mile north of Interstate 74.

The explosion and fire are under investigation by the Crawfordsville Fire Department, the Montgomery County Coroner's office, Indiana State Police, Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and the Indiana State Fire Marshall's Office.
