Montgomery, Mount Hope candidates file

Jan. 31—Incumbent mayors will be among those seeking to be returned to office on May 14 in two Fayette County municipal elections.

Candidate filing concluded recently in Montgomery and Mount Hope. The ballots for those two municipalities will be included in voting in the 2024 primary election.

Montgomery candidates filing for office included:

—Mayor — Johnny Colagrosso, Greg Ingram (incumbent); Barry Blackburn has withdrawn from the Montgomery mayor's race.

—Recorder — Jennifer Bunner, David White (incumbent)

—Council — Maurice Anderson, John Frisby (incumbent), Roger Landers (incumbent), Shawn Malhotra (incumbent), Jill Lockard Smith, Lisa Tignor.

A late filing if postmarked by Jan. 27 will be included.

Ingram also filed as a Republican candidate in House of Delegates District 52.

According to Montgomery City Administrator Angela Tackett, early voting dates will run from May 1-11, excluding Sundays.

Fayette County offers early voting at the Montgomery Community Center (county-wide). In Kanawha County, early voting locations include Marmet Town Hall, Belle Town Hall, the Girl Scout Building in Charleston and the Kanawha County Courthouse.

On Election Day, voting for Montgomery residents will be at St. John's Baptist Church at Morris Drive for Kanawha County and at the Montgomery Community Center for Fayette County, Tackett noted.

According to City Manager Polly Obugene, filing has closed.

Mount Hope candidates is below:

—Mayor — Michael Kessinger (incumbent)

—Recorder — Daniel Logan (incumbent)

—Council — Steve Brown (incumbent), Patricia Connelly (incumbent), Patty Logan, Tyrone Powell (incumbent) and Richard Smith (incumbent).

Like Montgomery's, Mount Hope's municipal election will be included with the May 14 primary ballot. According to Obugene, the Mount Hope ballot will include the potential renewal of a four-year excess levy, for which parameters have yet to be set.

The Mount Hope nominating convention will be held on Monday, Feb. 5, at The Table in Mount Hope.
