On Jan. 20, Montgomery native U.S. Navy Aviation Electronics Technician 1st Class John Kim took the Chief Petty Officer exam at Vista Point on Norfolk Naval Base in Norfolk, Virginia.

Chief Petty Officers are responsible for training junior officers and leading a division of sailors and petty officers.

The USS John C. Stennis is in Newport News Shipyard working alongside NNS, NAVSEA and contractors conducting Refueling and Complex Overhaul as part of the mission to deliver the warship back in the fight, on time and on budget, to resume its duty of defending the United States.
