Montgomery police investigate two homicides within eight hours

Montgomery police are investigating two separate homicides that occurred Monday within the span of about eight hours.

At about 10:20 a.m., police and fire medics went to the 2000 block of Terminal Road after a report of a shooting, said Capt. Saba Coleman, a spokeswoman for the Montgomery Police Department. They found Raja Howard, 31, with life-threatening injuries. Howard later died at a hospital, police said.

Ladarius Williams, 26, has been charged with murder in Howard's death, Coleman said. Williams was placed in the Montgomery County Detention Facility with a bond of $1.5 million, jail records show.

At 6:40 p.m. police and fire medics went to Traction Avenue and Pauline Street after a report of a shooting. They found Sylvester Shackleford, 42, of Montgomery with a gunshot wound, Coleman said. Shackleford was pronounced dead at the scene.

No arrests have been made in connection with Shackleford's death.

Montgomery has recorded 21 homicides so far this year.
