Hagan became passionate about news reporting at the University of Alabama.

“I had fallen in love with the print and digital writing process and just knew that that was where I wanted to be at," Hagan said.

Montgomery Advertiser Executive Editor Brad Harper noted the importance of political reporting amid the country's divided views on politics.

"Political reporting has never been more important than it is today, particularly at the state and local levels," Harper said. "Victor is a talented journalist from Madison who’s dedicated to exploring how state and federal government affects people’s lives, particularly in an election year. We’re thrilled to have him here in the Capital City."

Hagan's position is a part of a national effort throughout the USA Today Network to install reporting fellows in more states across the nation and up the company's political coverage, while expanding opportunities for journalists.
