Montgomery Whitewater: Nearby hotels and other places to stay

Guests will flood into Montgomery from across the nation this summer as Montgomery Whitewater opens for rafting and kayaking. The grand opening is July 7-9, with weeks of private events and other small gatherings in the park ahead of that.

Whether they fly in at Montgomery Regional Airport and snap up rental cars, or do a road trip to our area in their own vehicles, they're going to need a place to rest their heads — and possibly park their RVs — to dream of riding the rapids.

“People are coming from everywhere,” said Ron Simmons, chief officer of destination and community development for Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce. “They’re going to stay at hotels everywhere.”

Along with a boost in rental car use, as well as taxi and Uber services, Simmons said this will be a chance for M Transit — the city’s bus system — to shine. The city recently announced a multi-million investment in new busses, shelters, and on-demand ride options.

“There’s transportation directly from the airport to downtown,” Simmons said.

Future plans for Montgomery Whitewater include an on-site hotel, which CEO Dave Hepp said should be ready within two years. But the first few waves of folks will definitely need other accommodations. For those unfamiliar with the area, the Advertiser is helping take a little bit of the bed quest off your plates.

We’re kicking it off with the most likely of sleeping spaces, hotels from throughout the river region. Hint: If you get one downtown, there are many things to do within walking distance. Montgomery Whitewater is only minutes from downtown, though you're still going to want to take a vehicle across I-65 to get to Montgomery Whitewater at 1100 Maxwell Blvd. Make your hotel reservations ASAP, before they all get booked:
