Monticello high schoolers drive tractors to school for FFA Week

MONTICELLO, Ill. (WCIA) — Many teenagers drive a car to school, but on Wednesday, some Monticello High School students pulled up in something different.

They’re celebrating National FFA Week. Several students participated by driving their tractors to school.

Senior Wyatt Vaughan said it’s a cool experience to be a part of, because it’s spreading awareness of the importance of agriculture.

“We’ve got school activities planned for the entire week. Tonight’s actually section volleyball where all the FFA sections around here, we all go, we play volleyball together,” Vaughan said. “It’s a really fun time. And the rest of the week — tomorrow we have root beer floats during lunch, a talent show, and Friday is American Day, so wear whatever USA clothes you want.”

Monticello High School is planning more events this week, as well as several other schools in the Central Illinois area. St. Joseph-Ogden, Villa Grove, and Mount Zion High Schools will participate in “Drive Your Tractor to School Day” on Thursday.

The FFA has more than 900,000 student members nationwide.
