Monty Tech to host Career Expo for local job seekers
FITCHBURG — Many industries will be represented at Monty Tech's Career Expo, which returns this year after missing last year due to the pandemic.
Health care, human services and the trades will be among the industries represented at the expo. Some employers expected to be in attendance include Heywood Healthcare, Ironworkers Joint Apprenticeship Committee, and MilliporeSigma, according to a press release provided by Monty Tech.
The job fair kicks off May 5 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the school café, with about 50 employers expected to meet with job seekers. This event is free and open to the public. Job seekers are encouraged to bring their resumes.
“We’re proud to partner with employers to create incredible opportunities for our day and evening students while also making a positive impact in local workforce development,” said Trish Woodliff, director of adult education and workforce development at Monty Tech, in the press statement. “It’s crucial that schools, training programs and employers partner. These collaborations help connect the next generation of skilled tradespeople and re-employ the unemployed or underemployed.”
The Career Expo event was spearheaded in 2020 by Kim Curry, the district co-op coordinator. The event was not held last year due to the pandemic.
“Kim came up with the opportunity to collaborate with our continuing education program, bringing together an opportunity for both our day and evenings students while responding to the needs that she was hearing in the business community,” Woodliff told The Gardner News.
Monty Tech principal Tom Browne said he is glad to be hosting the career expo this spring.
“We know that the workforce has changed a great deal in the past two years and that businesses are eagerly seeking new employees,” he said in the press statement. “We also know firsthand how much talent there is among Monty Tech students and in the local community. This event will be a great opportunity to make valuable matches.”
Interested job seekers will find available job positions ranging in many types, from seasonal and part-time jobs to permanent and full-time positions; from entry level to mid level.
The Career Expo event planning was intentional about creating direct access for students to have the opportunity to engage with a variety of industries in one place, a place they are familiar with and otherwise might not have had an opportunity to do so without such an event, Woodliff told The Gardner News. Most job fairs traditionally take place during the day while students are in school. The planning committee also acknowledged that the location of the school itself is accessible to commuters and found value in opening the event up to the public.
