Monument to Russian poet Pushkin dismantled in Zhytomyr
“Pushkin has moved,” the press service said, posting footage of the dismantling.
The Zhytomyr Info media outlet reported that utility workers started dis-mantling early in the morning. First, they removed the initials from the pedestal, and later they took away the bust of the Russian poet.
According to Zhytomyr Mayor Serhiy Sukhomlyn, the local authorities spent no money on dismantling the monument.
He added the public would determine what should be placed in Pushkin’s stead.

Earlier in his address, Sukhomlyn offered to swap Pushkin’s bust for Ukrainian soldiers who are in Russian captivity. Another option is to send the bust to a museum, he said.
Another bust of Pushkin was removed from the center of Kharkiv on Nov. 9.
In addition, a controversial monument to Catherine the Great, a former Russian empress, in the center of Odesa is also scheduled for demolition.
