Moomaw Foundation awards grants to Tuscarawas County organizations

The Dewey H. and Irene G. Moomaw Foundation recently awarded grants totaling more than $26,000 to organizations in Tuscarawas County.

The charitable foundation was created by the late Dewey H. Moomaw to provide funds to qualified organizations for charitable, religious, scientific, literary and educational purposes.

Grant recipients in 2022 are:

  • The Tuscarawas County University Foundation, $5,480 for an IV infusion pump, clinical training bed, and laptop transport stand for the nursing education program at Kent State University at Tuscarawas.

  • Tuscarawas Public Library, $3,328, to purchase an AWE computer and peripherals for the children’s department at the Sugarcreek Branch Library.

  • The Salvation Army, $2,500, for ongoing social services in Tuscarawas County, including assistance with food and utilities.

  • Zoar Community Association, $2,500, for the Town Hall Redevelopment Project Best of Zoar Exhibit.

  • Alpine Hills Historical Museum in Sugarcreek, $2,200, for a laptop, printer and software for the museum.

  • Claymont City Schools Drama Department, $2,000, for the replacement and upgrade of the projector and computer control system in the High School auditorium.

  • Dover-New Philadelphia Kiwanis Club, $2,000, for an outdoor playground at the Tuscarawas County YMCA.

  • Tuscarawas County Literacy Coalition, $1,000, to purchase books for the 2022 One Book, One Community reading project.

  • Project Lead the Way, $750 each to Buckeye Career Center, Claymont City Schools, Dover City Schools, Indian Valley Schools, New Philadelphia Schools, Strasburg-Franklin Schools, and Tuscarawas Valley Schools, for technology and materials for science and engineering curriculum.
