Moon Garden Club holiday sale brings new gift ideas

MOON TWP. - The Moon Township Garden’s Club’s annual holiday sale this Saturday has changed its name to the Holiday Greens & Gift Shoppe to better reflect its evolution, event chairwoman Grace Aldridge said.

“We’ve evolved beyond just the greens,” Aldridge said about the event taking place 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 3 at Robin Hill Center in Moon. “We’ve expanded to other items like cards, crocheted toys and other items. And we have the fairy garden wands this year.”

The Garden Club will offer various handcrafted holiday wreaths, swags, garlands and centerpieces using both fresh and artificial greens. Additionally, garden gifts such as steppingstones and bird baths will be for sale, as well as homemade baked goods “tastefully wrapped and ready to give as a gift for that favorite person,” Garden Club President Marcia Welsh said.

Welsh said the event is an “an opportunity to share (our) love of nature through holiday décor creations.”

The club will sell its offerings in six rooms of the 1920s Georgian-style Robin Hill Center home at 949 Thorn Run Road. Gifts for the birds and family pets, fire starters, homemade stationery, soy candles and glass flowers and fresh greens will be sold. There is no charge to enter, and the club will give away a door prize.

The club, established 101 years ago, celebrates its tradition of offering unique Christmas items for the community “at the best prices in town,” Welsh said. All proceeds support the club’s annual scholarship, the Fleur de Lune Garden at Robin Hill, a plant giveaway, and the garden club’s other philanthropic endeavors.

“People wait in line to get in,” club designer Merrianne Cacali said.

Aldridge said in past years, people began lining up to get in at 8:15 a.m. to have the best selection.

In 2020, the club suspended its annual sale due to the COVID pandemic. “When we started up again (in 2021), people said, ‘We’re glad you’re back,’” Aldridge said.
