Moorings Park named 8th best retirement community in US. 4 others in SWFL on list

Newsweek magazine ranks Moorings Park Communities in Naples as the eighth best retirement community in the nation, while four others in Southwest Florida have earned recognition.

Moorings Park is the only continuing care retirement community in Southwest Florida to make the top 10 list in Newsweek’s first-ever ranking of the best 250 senior communities in the United States.

The Glenview at Pelican Bay in Naples ranks 37th while Shell Point in Fort Myers came in 73rd.

Cypress Cove in Fort Myers came in at 107 and Vi at Bentley Village placed 140 in the ranking.

Data was collected in the 20 states with the most continuing care retirement communities.

The states are California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Washington, Wisconsin, Iowa, Kansas, and Virginia.

Thirty CCRC’s in Florida were among the top 250, according to Newsweek’s ranking.

The U.S. has about 2,000 continuing care retirement communities which offer independent living, assisted living, memory care, and skilled care as residents become frailer and need progressive levels of assistance.

The retirement communities typically have expansive campuses with a host of active-living amenities with a one-time entrance fee for an independent living apartment and monthly service fee for meals and other services The idea is aging in the community with a full continuum of care.

Nancy Cooper, Newsweek’s editor, said senior citizens today are more active and housing options have to meet expectations with a wide variety of lifestyle activities.

“From living independently to assisted living and skilled nursing, each facility offers comprehensive services, ensuring residents can age with dignity and grace,” she said.

Newsweek partnered with Statista Inc., a global research firm, to conduct the ranking using a score for each community based on online surveys of medical professionals, acquaintances of residents and accreditation data.

The No. 1 ranked community is HumanGood-Valle Verde in Santa Barbara, Calif.

Moorings Park ranked eighth nationally

Moorings Park ranked second among CCRC’s in the state; behind Freedom Pointe at the Villages that is No. 1 in Florida.

Moorings Park three campuses have a combined 980 residents in independent living, 107 residents in assisted living and 82 residents in skilled nursing

They are the original campus at 120 Moorings Park Drive;  Moorings Park at Grey Oaks at 2591 Rue du Jardin; and Moorings Park Grande Lake at 7410 Little Lane.

Glenview at Pelican Bay ranked 37th nationally

The Glenview came in seventh among CCRC’s in Florida

Located in Pelican Bay at 100 Glenview Place, the retirement community has 118 apartments with views of the Gulf of Mexico, Clam Pass, and 588 acres of preserve.

“Being part of the first-ever Newsweek top 250 CCRC’s list is a significant milestone for The Glenview,” Krisandra Panting, marketing director, said in a statement. “It highlights the dedication of our team and the positive impact we've made within the senior lifestyle community landscape.”

Shell Point ranked 73rd nationally

Shell Point ranks 13 among CCRC’s in the state.

Located at 15101 Shell Point Blvd. along the Caloosahatchee River near Sanibel Island, Shell Point has 2,500 residents.

It is largest not-for profit, single-site retirement community in the U.S.

Cypress Cove ranked 107th nationally

Cypress Cove came in 17th among CCRC’s in Florida.Located at 16451 HealthPark Commons Drive in Fort Myers, Cypress Cove has about 650 residents.

Officials at Cypress Cove declined to comment.

Vi at Bentley Village ranked at 140 nationally

Vi came in 21st among CCRC’s in the state.

Located at 850 Retreat Drive in North Naples, Vi has 830 residents. The campus spans 156 acres.

Officials at Vi declined to comment.
