Moped driver killed in collision on Route 24 in Brockton

BROCKTON − A moped driver died as a result of a collision on Route 24 late Thursday night, officials said.

State Police responded to a report of a crash on Route 24 north in Brockton about 11:39 p.m.

Police say a moped and 2012 Volkswagen Jetta collided as the moped traveled from the right lane to the middle lane.

"The male operator of the moped was ejected from the bike," State Police spokesperson David Procopio said in a written statement. "The operator of the Volkswagen remained at the scene."

"Immediately after the initial collision, three vehicles that had been traveling behind the Volkswagen and moped struck the moped as it lay on the roadway, after the operator had already been ejected from it," Procopio said.

The driver of the moped was taken by ambulance to Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, where police say he died.

The moped driver wasn't immediately identified.

The crash remains under investigation by State Police.
