More than 1,000 new cases of COVID-19 reported in South Dakota, four more deaths

The state of South Dakota reported a sharp increase in new COVID-19 cases Tuesday, but recoveries are also rising, according to data from the state's Department of Health.

The state reported 1,027 new cases of the virus, bringing the active cases in South Dakota to 7,647. That's 35 less active cases than what was reported on Monday, according to state data.

The four new deaths brought the total since the start of the pandemic to 2,375. As of Tuesday, 250 people in the state remained hospitalized with the virus, according to the state.

Of those hospitalized, 73 are in an adult ICU bed and 43 are on ventilators. The state reported 34% of adult ICU beds are still available in South Dakota.

Abiut 65% of the South Dakota's eligible population has received at least one dose of the vaccine, according to the state.
