More than 1,200 remain without power after strong storms knock down trees, wires

Jul. 17—More than 1,200 are without power this evening after strong thunderstorms left trees and wires down.

The first round of storms that rolled through in the afternoon knocked out power to 3,385 utility customers, with the most in Montgomery County with 1,739 followed by Butler County with 964 outages. The afternoon storm prompted the National Weather Service in Wilmington to issue severe thunderstorm warnings for Butler, Clark, Greene, Montgomery and Warren counties.

There were 2,647 outages as of 7 p.m. in Greene County, with service restored to all but 156 by 9 p.m.

Power outages reported by AES Ohio, Duke Energy and Ohio Edison as of 9 p.m. for the area include:

Butler County: 866

Montgomery County: 182

Greene County: 156

Warren County: 10

Preble County: 5

Clark County: 1

Champaign County: 1

Darke County: 1

The main threats associated with the thunderstorms were damaging winds and heavy rain that could lead to flooding.

There were several reports of trees and wires down made to the NWS, including:

Multiple trees down in Fairfield at 2 p.m.

Multiple power lines down and one tree down in Lebanon at 2:32 p.m.

A tree 8-inch diameter, 5 feet long tree was on Dotson Drive in Beavercreek at 2:38 p.m.,

Wind gusts of 59 mph were reported at the Lebanon Airport at 2:40 p.m.

Multiple power lines down and one tree down in Springboro at 2:40 p.m.

Multiple power lines down and one tree down in Waynesville at 2:43 p.m.
