More than a 100 feared trapped in landslide in India

STORY: The land gave way in the middle of the night in the remote hamlet of Irshalwadi, located in Raigad district in the western state of Maharashtra, officials said. Iitial reports said about 100 people were feared trapped under the debris as relatives waited for news at the base of the mountain.

Multiple landslides also occurred in the state of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday (July 19), according to Rakesh Minhas, the District Collector of Kathua, where a bridge was damaged causing severe disruptions to traffic.

Flash floods, landslides, and accidents caused by heavy rain have killed more than 100 people in India since the onset of the monsoon season on June 1, mostly in the north which has seen 41% more rain than normal, the India Meteorological Department said.
