More than 100 people donate in Dallas clothing drive

DALLAS, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A clothing drive in Luzerne County Sunday for a family who lost their home in a fire on Valentine’s Day. More than 100 people in the Dallas community donated belongings and support.

The Back Mountain Regional Fire Department in Dallas was home to a wonderful outpouring of support for a family who lost everything in a fire on Wednesday night that destroyed their home.

The donations rolled in one after another Sunday afternoon from community members, and more than 100 people stopped by to help a family during their difficult time.

“It’s so tragic they lost everything,” said Dallas resident Josephine Bradley.

“We really love to give back to our community, especially single moms with what they need,” said Erica Amen of Dallas.

People dropped off diapers, clothes, and toys for the mother and her young children after the Wednesday night fire in Lake Township. And one mother donated sentimental items that had been stored away for decades.

“We have our changing table my son is going to be 20 next month and it’s been up in the attic and it’s like brand new,” Bradley explained.

When firefighters from this station arrived at the fire on February 14th to extinguish it, they saw everything was completely ruined for the young family.

“Noticing that there were a lot of children’s clothing throughout some parts of the house. We realize that it was a big family,” said Back Mountain Regional Assistant Fire Chief Ed Gray.

The fire department behind me headed out to drop off those donations to the family.

“The ongoing support of the community as they keep coming in. It’s just wonderful,” Gray stated.

After the large amount of donations were collected, which included gift cards, money, and furniture, the department members wanted to share their gratitude on behalf of the family.

“Some people write their names down, so we could send thank you out. some people just wanted to donate, and that was it, gift cards. We’re taking anything that we could possibly take to help these family members out,” Gray added.

“Feels good to give it to someone that could use it,” Bradley said.

The victims of the fire are staying with other family members at the moment and the father of the children has set up a GoFundMe.
