More than 200 protesters gather in downtown Sault Ste. Marie in support of abortion rights

SAULT STE. MARIE — Following the Supreme Court decision striking down Roe v. Wade, about 250 residents gathered in downtown Sault Ste. Marie to protest for their right to a safe, legal abortion Thursday, June 30.

Attendees discussed personal experiences with abortion and stressed the need for safe and legal access. Petitions circulated during the protest for an amendment that would ensure the legality of abortion on Michigan — among other reproductive rights — if placed on the November ballot and approved by voters.

State Senate candidate Barb Connelly and House of Representatives candidate Jodi Decker attended the rally and spoke in support of abortion rights.
