More than 240 officers from around Louisiana to help with New Orleans’ Mardi Gras security
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office and the City of New Orleans have entered into an agreement to provide additional parade security for the 2024 Mardi Gras season.
According to the OPSO, the New Orleans City Council approved a Cooperative Endeavor Agreement between OPSO and the city that states the agency will provide additional public safety services in addition to NOPD’s coverage during Mardi Gras.
Leaders with the OPSO said 18 other Louisiana agencies have agreed to provide more than 240 officers and deputies to help with parade security. Throughout a total of 10 parade days, the OPSO will deploy 145 of its deputies.
“This operation is outside of the normal scope of OPSO’s work, but for the second year in a row we have been called on to support the city and are proud to do so in an effort to ensure our community and visitors to the city have a fun and safe carnival season,” said Sheriff Susan Hutson. “I want to extend a huge thank you to all of our law-enforcement partners who answered my and the city’s call for support, and we are excited to be the conduit to welcome more than 240 deputies and officers to support this Carnival season.
