More than 36,000 trees planted over winter
More than 36,000 new trees have been planted in Surrey over winter as part of a county-wide initiative.
The planting was part of Surrey County Council's pledge to add 1.2 million trees by 2030 - one for each resident.
Since the launch of the initiative in 2019, more than 510,000 trees have been planted in the county.
The council's cabinet member for the environment Marisa Heath said the aim was to meet net zero targets and to make Surrey "as green and beautiful as possible".
The council said a range of community projects had also helped, with trees being planted at a farm, women's prison, and a secondary school.
On top of this, almost 2,000 metres of new hedgerows were added from November to February, offering habitats for wildlife.
