More than 50 people were injured, including at least six children, after Russian forces launched a powerful attack on Kyiv overnight, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported on Telegram on Dec. 13.

The Russian invaders sent ten C-400 ballistic missiles and ten Shahed kamikaze drones at the Ukrainian capital overnight, and while they were all neutralized, the falling debris caused mass injuries and damage.

“51 injured people, including six children as a result of the attack,” Serhiy Popko, Kyiv governor reported on Telegram.  “The oldest victim is 80 years old, and the youngest is 5 years old. All have received medical assistance.”

The enemy shelling damaged the facade of a high-rise building on the Kyiv’s left bank, causing a balcony fire on the 6th floor, the State Emergency Service (SES) reported.  They said that 34 people were injured, including seven children. 15 people were hospitalized, including five that could not move independently, SES said.

Preliminary diagnoses include stab and cut wounds, and acute stress reactions.

25 residents were evacuated to a safe distance. Firefighting brigades found eight cars burning in the courtyard of the building upon arrival. A kindergarten building was also damaged, with its facade destroyed and windows shattered. A security guard was inside at the time but is not currently in life-threatening danger.

35 private houses remain without electricity following the night attack, the Kyiv City State Administration (KCSA) announced. The power outage is due to damage to power lines caused by missile fragments. Specialists from DTEK Power company are working to restore the electricity supply.

“It is currently known that the enemy could have carried out the strikes on Kyiv using 48N6 ballistic missiles from the S400 system,” Andriy Yermak, Zelenskyy’s chief-of-staff reported on Telegram.

Fragment falls were recorded in other areas of the capital as well.

“All ten targets flying towards Kyiv on a ballistic trajectory were shot down by an anti-aircraft missile unit of the Air Forces,” Ukraine’s Air Forces reported on Telegram.

“The type of missiles can only be determined after the examination of the fragments by the relevant services.”

Two other people were injured in a separate Russian overnight attack on Odesa Oblast on Dec. 13.

The Russian invaders fired 10 kamikaze Shahed-136/131 drones from the Balaklava area of temporarily occupied Crimea. Ukraine’s Air Forces and mobile Air Defense units destroyed most or all of the drones Ukraine’s Air Command reported on Telegram.

It is not yet clear whether any drones managed to find their target or if the civilians were injured by falling debris.
