More than 500 pounds of ground beef recalled

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Scanga Meat Company, based in Salida, Colorado, announced a recall of approximately 563 pounds of ground beef products due to possible contamination of E. coli O103.

E. coli O103 is a strain that can produce Shiga toxin, which can lead to a form of kidney failure called hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS).

The following products were recalled:

  • 6-pound plastic tubes of “It’s a treat to eat Scanga Meat OUR REGULAR GROUND BEEF” with lot code 3345

  • 6-pound plastic tubes of “It’s a treat to eat Scanga Meat OUR X-L GROUND BEEF” with lot code 3345

  • 1-pound plastic chubs of “SCANGA MEAT HAMBURGER” with lot code 3345

  • 1-pound plastic trays of “It’s a treat to eat Scanga Meat GROUND ROUND” with lot code 3345

The products have the establishment number “EST. 6460” inside the USDA mark of inspection, and products were sold at the establishment’s retail location and shipped to restaurants in Colorado.

Consumers should check their refrigerator and freezer for recalled products and discard them.
