More than 50k Mass. Drivers will receive new ID and Licenses due to printing ‘anomaly’
More than 50,000 people in the Bay State will be receiving a new license or ID, following a printing issue.
The Massachusetts RMV uses a vendor, IDEMIA, to print the IDs and licenses. The vendor“ notified the RMV it had discovered an anomaly with a single printer that resulted in a need to replace 53,680 driver licenses and identification cards,” according to a statement issued by IDEMIA.
In a statement to the Boston Globe, MassDOT spokeswoman Jacquelyn Goddard said the cards “lack a certain fraud prevention feature.”
As a result of the anomaly, replacement cards will start going out to people impacted starting June 6th. Anyone who received a new card is asked to please destroy the old card.
There are no impacts to anyone’s driving record, according to the statement issued by IDEMIA.
