More than 90% of eligible CA cities, counties sign onto multi-billion opioid settlement

California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced Wednesday that more than 90% of the eligible cities and counties in the state have signed onto a billion-dollar opioid settlement with several pharmaceutical distributors. The $26 billion settlement with Johnson & Johnson, Cardinal, McKesson, and AmerisourceBergen is over what the attorney general’s office says is their “role in creating and fueling the nationwide opioid crisis.” With the more than 400 California cities that signed onto the settlement, the state stands close to receiving the full share of the national settlement, which is more than $2 billion, Bonta said.
