More details on IMPD officer ejected from motorcycle at North Shadeland and 45th Street

Indianapolis police have released the circumstances surrounding a crash that left an officer injured Monday.

IMPD responded to the crash around 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of North Shadeland Avenue and East 45th Street. Police discovered an on-duty officer in "serious but stable condition," officials said. The officer was transported to the hospital. No one else involved was injured, police said Monday evening.

Investigators say the crash happened when the motorcycle was southbound on Shadeland Avenue and a black Nissan Altima was traveling northbound. The Nissan turned westbound in front of the officer, striking the motorcycle and ejecting the officer onto the roadway, officials said.

According to police, the officer had the right of way. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.

As of Tuesday, the officer is awake, talking and "in as good of condition as can be expected given the circumstances," officials said.

There are no further details about the crash.
