More EV charging stations coming to South Sacramento

(FOX40.COM) — The City of Sacramento is expanding its network of electric vehicle chargers in 2024 with the addition of 12 new charging stations in South Sacramento, according to a new release from the city.

In Summer 2024, the city is planning to open new charging stations at three locations, with each location getting four stations and two connectors for each station.

The locations include:
• Colonial Heights Library, 4799 Stockton Blvd, Sacramento
• Belle Cooledge Library, 5600 S Land Park Dr, Sacramento
• Sam and Bonnie Pannell Community Center, 2450 Meadowview Rd, Sacramento

These 12 chargers are the first phase of the city’s plan to install a total of 34 EV charging stations at more than a dozen libraries, community centers and parks across Sacramento.

“The City is committed to extending access citywide and strategically placing charging infrastructure, e-bike lending, and car-sharing services for communities throughout the city,” Principal Planner Fedolia “Sparky” Harris wrote in the news release. “It’s critical to ensure widespread accessibility off the grid.”

Along with offering more charging options for owners of EVs, the city is also planning to use this expanding network of charging stations to support its “Our Community CarShare” transportation program.

The car-share program is operated in partnership with Zipcar as a cost-sharing transportation option for residents to run errands, make local trips and get to appointments in a zero-emission vehicle.

Currently, the city operates 64 of its own EV charging stations that are compatible with the existing public EV market with either direct connections or adapters.
