More JCPS high school students walk out of class over potential Roe v. Wade decision
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Hundreds of Waggener High students walked out of classes Thursday morning in protest of the potential overturning of Roe v. Wade — the fourth Jefferson County high school where a walkout occurred in the past week.
The organized walkout lasted 19 minutes and 73 seconds, district spokesperson Carolyn Callahan said, in honor of the 1973 Supreme Court landmark decision which established the right to an abortion.
About 300 students left the school and walked the track around 10:20 a.m. and were all back in class within the period. Because students worked with the school's administration to plan the protest to ensure it was done safely, no students will face discipline, Callahan said.
Last week students at duPont Manual High School, Ballard High School and Atherton High School took part in walkouts.
'We are not your vessels': Hundreds rally in Louisville after leaked draft on Roe v. Wade
Protests throughout the community have been organized since a draft of a Supreme Court decision was published May 3 by Politico, which stated that Roe v. Wade was "egregiously wrong from the start."
The leaked opinion, which could come out in June, was written by Associate Justice Samuel Alito and its authenticity confirmed by Chief Justice John Roberts.

The leak prompted organizers from the Women's March, a global protest held the day after President Donald Trump's inauguration in 2017, to call on supporters of abortion rights to rally outside federal courthouses and other government buildings May 4.
