More rain is coming to Corpus Christi this weekend. Here's what to expect.

South Texas could receive significant rainfall this weekend as a disturbance moves over the area.

According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, rainfall chances will continue and increase Friday through Saturday and could become scattered to numerous showers with 0.25 inch to 1.5 inches of rain possible in some areas.

Corpus Christi experiences heavy rain, Thursday, Oct. 14, 2021. The National Weather Service in Corpus Christi said 1.97 inches of rain fell in only one hour.

A marginal risk of excessive rainfall is in effect for eastern portions of the region on Friday, and the risk will expand across much of the area by Saturday, a news release from the National Weather Service stated. The highest amount of rain is expected across the Coastal Plains.

Though heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding in some areas, forecasters say the soil could absorb larger amounts before becoming saturated due to the drought conditions in the area. Still, some storms with heavy downpours could result in ponding of water at underpasses, low-lying spots and poor-drainage areas, increasing the risk of hydroplaning on roadways.

The heavy rainfall chances come after a week of isolated showers, but rainfall amounts have not increased the volume of water in Lake Corpus Christi and Choke Canyon Reservoir. The city of Corpus Christi expects to enter Stage 2 of its water usage restrictions in the weeks to come.

The area will remain hot and humid with highs in the 90s to 100s and heat indices below 105. Temperatures will increase next week with maximum heat index values between 105 and 109 on Tuesday.
