Rain poured down on the San Joaquin Valley while snow dusted areas of the Sierra Nevada over the weekend – and more could be on the way.

Portions of the Yosemite and Sequoia national parks and forests now require chains for travel due to the inclement weather, while other areas – like Generals Highway from Wuksachi Lodge to the junction with Highway 180 – are closed to the public because of the heavy snow.

“Conditions in the mountains can change rapidly and become very challenging or dangerous for those that are unprepared or inexperienced traveling in the mountains during winter,” the National Park Service website reads. “If you are inexperienced in winter travel in the mountains, consider visiting when conditions improve.”

Other national park closures include Highway 180 to Cedar Grove at the Hume gate, Mineral King Road, Panoramic Drive in the Grant Grove area, Crystal Cave Road and Redwood Mountain Road.

“Periods of heavier rain could produce localized street flooding,” a tweet from the National Weather Service Sacramento reads. “Never drive through flooded roads.”
