More rain, heavy winds set to hit SLO County this week. Here’s what the forecast shows

As San Luis Obispo County recovers from recent flooding, another storm is barreling towards the region — bringing rain and heavy winds with it.

On Monday night, the city of San Luis Obispo can expect between a tenth and a quarter inch of rain after 11 p.m. with wind gusts up to 20 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

Paso Robles will see a similar amount of rain on Monday night, with wind gusts reaching 15 mph, the agency said.

Central Coast residents should batten down the hatches on Tuesday, the Weather Service said.

That’s when the storm is expected to intensify, the agency said, dumping more than half an inch of rain on SLO County. Heavy rains are likely to be accompanied by wind gusts from 30 to 50 mph.

There will be a chance of thunderstorms in San Luis Obispo, but not in Paso Robles, the agency said.

According to the Weather Service, snow will dust mountaintops at elevations higher than 4,000 feet.

On Tuesday night, SLO could receive up to an inch of rain, with wind gusts as high as 30 mph.

Paso Robles could receive a little more than a half inch of rain on Tuesday night, with wind gusts up to 40 mph.

On Wednesday, there’s an 80% chance of rain in SLO with a westerly wind blowing at 20 to 25 mph, the Weather Service said, while Paso Robles has a 70% chance of rain with wind blowing about 15 mph.

The rain should cease on Wednesday night at about 11 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

High wind, flood watches in place for SLO County

According to the Weather Service, there’s a high wind watch in place from Tuesday morning to Tuesday evening for the interior valleys and mountains of San Luis Obispo County, including Atascadero, Paso Robles, Santa Margarita and Templeton.

The Weather Service is predicting south winds of 35 to 45 mph in those areas with gusts up to 70 mph.

“Damaging winds could blow down large objects such as trees and power lines,” the agency said. “Power outages are possible.”

That National Weather Service also issued a flood watch for most of San Luis Obispo County that’s in effect from late Monday through Wednesday afternoon.

“Extensive street flooding and flooding of creeks and rivers are possible,” the agency said.

When will sunshine return to Central Coast?

A total of 1 to 3 inches of rain could fall in SLO County from Sunday through Wednesday, with 0.25 to 1 inch of rainfall per hour at the storm’s peak, the National Weather Service said.

The storm system could cause “downed trees and power lines, isolated power outages, slick roads with travel delays (and) urban and small stream flooding,” the National Weather Service said on Twitter.

Sunshine and a light breeze are slated to return to SLO County on Thursday, lasting through the weekend, the National Weather Service said.
