Stockton is in the line of another storm set to sweep through California Monday night through Wednesday, soaking the valley with rain and dumping heavy snow in the Sierra, according to the National Weather Service.

As of Monday morning, the National Weather Service forecasted the storm could bring up to an inch of rain to Stockton, accompanied by up to 30 mph wind gusts and possible thunderstorms.

The coming storm — two low-pressure systems converging on the West coast simultaneously — could also dump up to 3 inches of snow per hour in the Sierra, the National Weather Service said. Areas as low as 3,000 to 4,000 feet could see one to three feet of snow.

Snowpack water content in the Sierra is already 220% of normal, according to the state Department of Water Resources.

The San Joaquin River has been hovering at or above the 29.5-foot “danger” stage — past the flood stage — since March 18. Danger stage is when a body of water flows at a greater capacity than the maximum the protecting infrastructure was designed to hold, according to the National Weather Service, where there is "extreme danger with threat of significant hazard to life and property in the event of a levee failure."

As of midday Monday, the California Nevada River Forecast Center predicted from readings near Vernalis the river will slowly recede into the flood stage, dropping half a foot by Saturday, April 1.

Evacuation orders for communities along the San Joaquin River — Haven Acres Mobile Home Park and Airport Ct. — and the evacuation warning for Turtle Beach RV Park were still in place as of midday Monday, according to San Joaquin County’s SJReady.org. The evacuation orders and warnings have affected about 100 county residents, county officials said.
