More rescue efforts deploy in Japan

Japan is doubling its deployments of search and rescue workers in a desperate effort on the flooded island of Kyushu.

And more heavy rain may be on the way. Kyushu's death toll has passed 50 and about a dozen people are reported missing.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga:

"About 80,000 members from the police, fire department, and Japan Coast Guard are on a search and rescue mission. Our policy is saving people's lives first and we will make our very best effort in our mission."

The rain front was expected to remain over the area until Thursday (July 9).

Kyodo News reported at least 71 landslides across 12 prefectures-citing the land ministry, and said more than 1.3 million people had been ordered to leave their homes.
