More showers across Utah to close out the work week

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) – Happy Thursday, or happy Friday eve Utah! It’s been a busy week of weather so far and we have more active weather to go as we round out the workweek. Today will bring scattered showers across the Beehive State with the best chance coming to central and southern Utah as a storm system moves in from our southwest.

The bottom line? Our active weather continues to round out the workweek with scattered showers expected through Friday before calmer skies settle in this weekend.

In northern Utah, showers will be a bit more hit or miss, but that potential will exist. Given that temperatures will be similar to what we had yesterday in northern Utah, there will be potential for both rain and snow showers in our valleys. Down south, most of what we’ll see will be snow outside of lower elevations like lower Washington County where rain is expected. Outside of any wet weather skies will be partly sunny to mostly cloudy. Daytime highs across the state will mainly be in the 30s and 40s.

There’s a chance skies calm slightly into tonight, but we’ll hold onto a chance for isolated snow showers across the state. By tomorrow another quick-moving storm drops in from the northwest to keep our wet weather potential elevated. We’ll see scattered showers across the state, but showers will likely be more uniform compared to just favoring the southern two-thirds of the state. Temperatures will also be a little cooler in northern Utah thanks to more of a northwesterly flow allowing valleys to mainly see the potential of snow.

There are still winter alerts in place given our moisture potential. Winter Storm Warnings remain in effect for the central and southern mountains through 5 a.m. tomorrow as an additional 6-12″ of snow looks possible with higher amounts for the Pine Valleys and around Brian Head. There’s also a Winter Weather Advisory in effect for Bryce Canyon until 5 p.m. this afternoon as 3-6″ of additional snow looks possible.

When it comes to accumulations through Friday night, southern and central mountains will likely do the best with 8-16″ with locally up to 2 ft. Northern mountains won’t see as much, but we’ll add more snow with the Wasatch north of I-80 seeing likely 2-6″ with 5-10″ for the southern Wasatch. If everything comes together, there is a chance that spots in the southern Wasatch could see over a foot. Over the next couple of days, valleys may not receive any snow or up to 3″ while benches will likely see 1-4″ with up to 6″ in a few spots. For mountain valleys and the I-15 corridor between Cedar City and Nephi, 2-6″ looks possible with maybe over half a foot in a few spots.

Moisture will try to linger into the weekend, but the overall trend looks to be drying out by late Saturday on what will be a chilly weekend with temperatures running slightly below average before we go on a steady warm-up next week as skies look to remain mostly quiet.
