More snow to fall on Alamance County Thursday through Saturday

Alamance County will see more snow this week before the remnants of last weekend's storm have melted.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service (NWS) in Raleigh issued a winter weather advisory from 4 p.m. Thursday to 4 a.m. Saturday. Up to 2 inches of snow and a glaze of ice is expected to cover central North Carolina.

According to the latest forecast, Alamance County residents should expect to see the snow start mixing in with rain by 9 p.m. Thursday. Snow accumulation for Thursday is estimated at less than half an inch.

The snow will pick up again Friday, mostly after 1 p.m., and could continue through 2 a.m. Saturday. Snow accumulation totals vary with the NWS estimating 1 to 2 inches while The Weather Channel is forecasting less than one inch.

Several Cone Health COVID-19 testing and vaccination sites will be closed Friday, including Alamance Regional Medical Center Grand Oaks Pharmacy, Glen Raven Medical Center and Burlington Family Practice. Testing sites will remain closed through the weekend.

City of Burlington offices will also open late at 10 a.m. Friday. Link Transit operations will also begin at 10 a.m.

A high of just 34 degrees on Saturday once the storm passes could make icy roads as snow melts and refreezes.

The mix of snow, ice and winds of 10 mph or more throughout the end of the week could mean more power outages as well.

"Residents of central North Carolina should be prepared to stay off the roads, expect to remain home (or at work if applicable) from Thursday night through at least Saturday. Expect power outages during that time. Finally, take the opportunity now to stock up on supplies that you would need for at least a 72-hour period of time at home or work," the NWS warned.
