More snow, frigid temperatures coming as another Arctic blast heads toward New Jersey

There’s more cold and snow on the way as winter continues to target New Jersey with colder than average weather.

The National Weather Service is predicting snow Thursday morning of no more than an inch, said Brian Haines, a weather service meteorologist in Mount Holly.

From there, "it's definitely going to be cold," Haines said.

More frigid temperatures are expected to roll into the state late Thursday and again late Friday, with numbers approaching zero in Sussex County.

On the whole, the temperatures in New Jersey this week are 10 degrees colder than normal, he said.

As for the weekend, snow could be in the forecast as the Arctic air blows in from northwestern Canada, Haines said.

Whether it snows or not depends on where a low pressure system that's moving in settles, Haine said. If it sits more inland, then a rain and snow mix is expected for much of New Jersey. If it’s hugging the coast, it could mean heavy snow, he said. That low pressure system could also move out to sea.

According to nynjpaweather.com, the snow Saturday will be “possibly heavy at times with significant snow accumulation.”

The cold we are expected to see will not approach the frigid temperatures of early Sunday, when Sandyston in Sussex County recorded 5 below zero.

Right now, the temperature in Sussex County is forecast to drop to 4 degrees late Friday.

Bergen County is expected to see a drop to 10 degrees.

Temperatures along the Jersey Shore will dip to the mid-teens, late Thursday and late Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
